We pride ourselves on Quality, Service and Pricing
Huge presses to stamp ORIGINAL designs.
Chelsea Decorative Metal Company manufactures Tin Ceilings. This massive manufacturing machine stamps at 600 tons of pressure for a beautiful detailed stamping. The newer manufacturers stamp only 2' x 2' size sheets, while we are one of the few manufactures that stamp 2' x 4' sheets. Still easy to install, but has less seams. Great for a back splash where sometimes two of our sheets will cover the whole area. We always recommend getting samples to help you choose the best company.
600 ton pressure for quality stampings.
Here's the gauge from our oldest press, which we use to manufacture the tin sheets every single day. This power enables us to stamp evenly across the entire 2' x 4' sheet. The 2' x 4' sheets are the original size of the dies, but early on, manufacturers that offered 2' x 8' sheets were just stamping the tin sheets twice. The Tinman originally install those sheets with his father. But when Chelsea started manufacturing, he decided that 8' long sheets were just to hard to handle. The 2' x 4' sheets were a great compromise, easy to install, yet covers a nice area.
We also manufacture the 2' x 2' sheets for "suspended ceilings" also known as "drop-in ceilings". These sheets are really 23 3/4" X 23 3/4". These Tin Ceiling sheets were not originally made for these type of ceilings, but some jobs need to have access, and the market for these type of ceilings have grown. We also manufacture some designs in the 2' x 2' for nail up, those are really 24 1/2" x 24 1/2" because of the over lap.
Our manufacturing method enables us to purchase the sheets already cut, but since there is not one size that fit every design, we then cut each sheet to a specific size for each pattern. There is a different pull on the metal that varies for each of the 3", 6", 12" and 24" designs. And, of course, the cornices and molding vary also. Here's Robert cutting on one of our many machines.
Tin-plated steel: Thickness of .010 just like the original sheets.
The sheets we use are Tin Plated Steel, NOT plastic. The shiny tin finish is excellent for paint retention and we recommend painting directly to the metal with an oil-based paint in any room except a bathroom, where we recommend using a primer. Some people want the shiny finish and so they protect it with urethane or a lacquer (either should be oil-based). Some people protect the metal by painting it silver. It still has that metallic look, but doesn't look so new.
Well stocked and shipped daily.
Many orders can go Fedex ground and are packaged safely. Larger order are sent by truck lines and are crated. Since we manufacture, our sheets are readily available for immediate shipping. We get prices for shipping, whether you are interest in next day, 2 day or 3 day delivery. Most orders take four day or less any way. Order before 1:00 pm and we will usually get the order out the same day since we have pick ups every day. Here's Michael loading a crate.
Secure packaging so orders arrives safely and promptly.
We have only one location, which is in Houston, Texas, making us centrally located to anywhere in the Great U.S.A. Here is a picture of where we manufacture all our metal products. We combined two separate warehouses into one huge manufacturing facility. I might add, we've come a long way from the Chelsea Area in New York City, where Chelsea Decorative Metal Company got it's start.
The only thing better than our quality is our service.
The Tinman is the only person in the business who has actually install the pressed tin ceilings himself. He did it in New York with his father. Now he draws diagrams for your specific rooms and discusses them with you or your installers. Both Glenn and Larry give personal attention to every customer that calls whether it's for 1 sheet, 100 sheets or just information.
Tin Ceilings by the Tin Man is the Tin Ceiling Company with a Heart.
Tin ceilings are our only business. We are a manufacturer and supplier of tin ceiling tiles, tin ceiling crown molding (cornice), suspended ceilings, tin tile backsplash and other tin products such as molding, frieze and copper sheets. Chelsea Decorative Metal Company is a family owned business now owned by Glenn "The Tin Man" Eldridge. His father Teddy, sold tin tile ceilings tiles in New York City. Glenn worked at Yankee Stadium as a vender, but it was after going to the Woodstock Festival (1969) that Glenn joined his father and began installing tin tile ceilings. Today, he is the only person in the industry that not only manufactures tin tile ceilings, but has also been an installer of tin tiles. Glenn even named his dog Rin Tin Tin.
Chelsea's tin tile ceilings are used both commercially and residentially. Commercially, the tin tiles are being used in suspended ceilings, as well as, being installed the original way tin tile ceilings were installed throughout the 20th century with hammer and nails. They are used in restaurants, office buildings, bars and night clubs, retail stores, churches and movie sets. You can see the tin ceiling tiles in "Coyote Ugly" and "Spiderman". More recently in "Jonah Hex" and the soon to be released remake of "True Grit". Many TV shows use the tin ceiling tiles for background sets. Residentially they can be used in every room, adding elegance to a dining room, fun to a playroom and nostalgia to the whole house. Kitchen remodeling with these tile ceilings are very popular. You can do a tile ceiling or a tile backsplash with a faux (hand painted) finish or use our copper sheets. The tin ceiling tiles can be used as a backsplash, a wainscoting or a wall covering. People even use the tin ceiling tiles for wall hangings, picture frames, inserts and many arts & craft projects.
The tin ceiling tiles mostly come in 2 ft. X 4 ft. sheets, but some tin ceiling tiles come in 2 ft. X 2 ft. panels. Either size makes it easily to install. The tin ceiling tiles are becoming more and more popular for suspended ceilings (drop tin ceilings). The Tin Man's tiles are ORIGINAL DESIGNS that date back to the 1800's. The tin ceiling tiles were used as an alternative to the decorative plaster of the time. The tin ceiling tiles come in a shiny silver tin finish, which can be paint directly to with an oil-based paint. You can also paint the metal tiles gold for a brilliant metallic look. Note: We now have the tin ceiling tiles in copper sheets.
All the tin ceiling tiles are made of tin-plated steel which are excellent for paint retention, but take a look at our faux (hand painted) finishes. The various styles, which are original designs, range from Art Deco to Victorian. The Victorian style is the most popular of all tin ceiling tile designs. Other styles are Americana, Art Deco, Generic and Turn of the Century.
Patterns come in 3 inch, 6 inch, 12 inch and 24 inch repeat patterns. Also available are crown molding (cornice) and fillers. Please take time to browse our eye pleasing selections of tin ceiling tiles in our Styles Section.
The tin ceiling tiles are used for home renovation as well as kitchen remodeling. The do-it-yourselfers love the metal tiles as well. Chelsea's tin ceiling tiles are priced reasonably and our consulting and service makes our customers very happy to use us. Since we manufacture tin ceiling tiles, our stock is plentiful and orders can usually be shipped immediately. Not only do we manufacture tin ceilings, but offer free consultations. We are not just sales people at Chelsea and we will be glad to answer any and all questions from either you, your builder or your designer. We have found that many people not only love the tin ceiling tiles, but the tin ceiling tiles bring back the nostalgia of their youth, either the ice cream parlor had tin ceiling tiles or there were tin ceiling tiles in the hardware store.
