Tin Ceilings by The Tinman

Updated: Jan 28, 2023

Yes, I am The Tinman, not a Tinman, which I also am, but "The Tinman". Especially "The Tinman of Houston". So if you look up the Houston Tinman, you will find me. But the question is why are you looking for me. I will tell you. I got the name because I sell tin ceiling sheets.

More information...

Tin ceilings have been around since after the Civil War, I have not. They were a way of decorating a ceiling at a cheaper cost. The older ceilings had workers putting designs on the ceilings with plaster and the labor to do so was costly. So tin sheets were made with designs and once put up, and painted white, looked like the ceilings of that time. The biggest change through the years were the Victorian era in the 1890s. Turn of the Century designs came at, well, the turn of the century, the 1900s. Followed by Art Deco in the 20s and 30s. Americana is a style also, that showed up and can be found in our catalog, which you can see at www.Tinman.com. I will talk more in the future about suspended ceiling (drop ceilings), but just want to mention that the picture above is a Victorian Design (6-02) in a wooden frame, which surrounds each sheet, so it looks like it is put in a suspended ceiling. As I end this first Blog, I just want to add that these sheets are beautiful and add that beauty to any room. It is also nostalgic and was probably in your corner hardware store, drug store (which are now called pharmacies), but still disperse drugs or your ice cream parlor. Lastly they are reasonably priced and prices are on our website: www.Tinman.com.

For now . . . keep looking up.

NOTE: You can send us a diagram with the dimensions as close as you can get. Doesn’t have to be drawn to scale, I will do that. List the designs you think you would like to use and your address. I will draw up a diagram that will help your installer, as well as, have what you need and the cost to get it to you.

Thanks for reading.
